Partnering with climate experts

Looking after the planet is everybody’s responsibility. That’s why fwip has partnered with Climate Partner to understand the carbon footprint of our products throughout the value chain. 

Whilst the fwip Portobello ice cream machine was developed with sustainability in mind (more on that in a moment), we’ve recently taken steps to ensure that we’re doing all we can to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

As we all know, should global temperatures rise beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius (compared with pre-industrial levels), we’ll start to see climate catastrophes in different parts of the world. 

And one thing we learnt from the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 26) is that businesses can make a substantial contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gases, and carbon neutrality. 

fwip is on a mission

At its core, fwip’s mission is to be a company that looks good, tastes good and does good.

Of course, we’re a business like any other, but when it comes to sustainability, we’re committed to ensuring we have a positive environmental impact, whilst bringing moments of joy through delicious ice cream. We know we’re already getting some things right. 

For example, our popular Chill Box not only keeps your swirls cold during transit for two hours, it’s also fully reusable, and compostable. 

And our Portobello ice cream machine uses just 1,269 kwh of energy per year – compared with a traditional soft serve machine that uses between 15,715 and 44,325 kwh annually.  To put that into perspective, our Portobello machine uses the same amount of energy as a light bulb and over 95% less power than a traditional soft serve machine. In addition, the Portobello doesn’t require plastic, rubber or metal part replacements, many other commercial ice cream machines do.

But how do we continue to have our ice cream and eat it, without damaging the environment? That’s what we are intending to find out.

Working towards carbon neutrality

We’re already confident about our product's eco-friendly credentials, but we want to do more. By partnering with Climate Partner, we’ll get a more accurate picture of our products’ carbon footprint. 

Climate Partner are experts in climate action, and they support companies in calculating their carbon emissions. They also help organisations to reduce their carbon emissions, before identifying projects to offset any unavoidable emissions.

We look forward to sharing the results of our product carbon footprint (PCF) assessment and our plans for a more sustainable fwip as soon as we can.
