As long ago as 2019, Deloitte were reporting an unprecedented upturn in sales for existing restaurants offering home delivery for the first time. In London, a survey by Uber Eats reported a sales increase of 74% for home delivery first-timers.

The global home delivery market is poised to be worth USD 150 billion by 2023

Overall, the report concluded that third-party delivery services have improved the economic position of the restaurant sector. So with the trend for online food delivery set to continue, where does it go next?

One of the few upsides to the global pandemic has been consumer demand for affordable luxuries delivered to the home. And it's a trend that’s stuck, with Just Eat reporting a 70% increase in dessert brands offered.

75% of Gen Zs would order dessert if it was on the home delivery menu

In fact, in research commissioned by Hershey’s, 60% of all consumers state that they would order dessert if it was available on the home delivery menu.

For Gen Zs, the number increases to 75%. So by adding desserts to the home delivery menu, restaurants and dark kitchens will bring in a very tasty incremental revenue.
